After realizing we were never going to be able to come up with all the money needed to dress ourselves, let alone the $50 a person it's going to cost to throw the wedding, I was quite downhearted.
I talked to my grandma and she assured me that we'd make it work. We tried to get loans, but ... credit's not so great on the homeward front.
So now we have my grandma's credit card that will allow us to pay back the wedding expenses over time, instead of all up front. It's pretty fantastic!
We have the envelopes all stuffed and stamped and ready to go, we just need to drop them off at a USPS drop box because they're too big to put in the outgoing mail spot of our apartment.
I got my dress. I know, I know I already bought a dress. Then the boob thing happened, so ...yeah. As bad as it sounds I'm claiming bankruptcy so the credit card I used the dress for is *poof*. I went... a little crazy, I'll admit. I got the dress, and a pink sash for it, a veil, and a necklace. Then a slip to wear under the dress. Yeah, I spent a little too much... especially on the veil... but when it was all put together it was just so... perfect. I felt completely wonderful, and yes, a bit like a princess.
Today I get to go pick out my wedding band. Yay!
The only other things we need to do now-ish are to reserve our night of the wedding hotel, and our honeymoon once we figure out what we're doing. We also need to reserve the site if we need a permit, and figure out if John needs to change his name before the wedding or if he can do it on the wedding license.
Of course, we still need to get all the ceremony stuff squared away, and figure out just what we're doing for flowers and favors.
Thankfully, we have enough to do what we'd like... I mean, within reason of course.
It's such a wonderful feeling to not have to be pulling out my hair figuring out how on earth we're going to be able to pull off something even remotely nice.
If you're a boy renting a suit, or know of a boy who needs to rent a suit, let me know. If everyone goes in together John gets a free one out of the deal which would be super fantastically awesome. Yeah.
I feel so blessed to be able to borrow this money; while I know that I'm totally responsible for it in the eventual, right now it makes me feel like the sky is the limit.

Giant Boobs
Yes, it's official, I now have the biggest boobs ever. As far as I can tell, I haven't grown anywhere else, and may have even lost inches elsewhere. However, now my boobs are so large that my lovely wedding dress I purchased is no longer going to zip over them. I guess that's what you get for buying a dress that fits perfectly.
So I've posted the dress for sale on Craigslist. I'm hoping that it will get some attention, I want to sell it so I can get a new one. I spent all day yesterday researching, and have a few dresses I really like that are close to half off what I paid for my dress. If nothing else, I can get my dress for $80 in a bigger size and pocket the difference (since I fail at shopping and all).
The wedding is getting super close! We've finally started to start to work on invitations. I've got a couple people I've asked to work on photography, but I'm definitely thinking that I want Colleen to do it. For some reason when going down the guest list for photographer options I totally forgot about her. I remembered though! I don't know if she'll want to do it though... but I figure if she does the shots will be a lot less blah and a lot more sexy and fluid than if I go with the family friend who's a photographer. I'm planning on asking everyone to bring their cameras anyway so we'll have lots of coverage.
I've instructed my grandpa to get ordained - and he told me he'd find a church within a month. John's got a plan for the reception (I think). There aren't green linens available in anything other than napkins - so I think I'm leaning towards an ivory and red blend. Like red going one way diagonally, then ivory on top in the other direction. Candles + roses = ta-da!
Ceremony wise we need to figure out how many people are coming ASAP so we can book chairs. I don't think it'll be more than 50. Then we can also tell the caterers, since our dishes aren't cheap - it'll be nice to know how much we're shelling out as soon as we can.
This wedding stuff is expensive! With getting a new dress, or even just altering the one I have... wedding bands, veil, under the dress stuffs, shoes, makeup, John's clothes, the arch, flowers for bouquets, boutineers, decoration, tulling, attendant gifts, invitations, chairs, catering, possibly a permit (Note to self: Check on that!), hotel room for the night of - and possibly the night before... there's SO much output. I don't think we're going to be able to afford a honeymoon :(
Good thing we're asking for money as presents. If people give us $50 a piece we might be able to offset the cost of the wedding. Still no honeymoon, but it'll be like people paid for themselves to enjoy the food and such. Still, most of our guests don't have $50 to spare so... I don't know.
I'm thinking of having John take out a loan to pay for the wedding... but I really don't want to. However, as it looks right now - we're not going to be able to afford anything other than the food for people. Le sigh.

The Dress
We went to David's Bridal, and to Macy's, Nordstroms, and everywhere in between. We went to everywhere we could think of that might sell dresses in general. I don't know how many dresses we tried on, but it felt like it was in the hundreds. Finally though, I found the dress. It fits wonderfully, it's lacy and glittery and spectacular. Got it from emporio bridal in Washington Square. It's... yeah, wonderful.
Only downside... I was trying to find a link to post here so you could look at on a model...and when I put in the designer and the product number I found the same dress I got for nearly 90 dollars cheaper... in addition, I bet brand new the zipper's a lot more considerate than it is on the dress I got. Yeah, and that's what I get I suppose. I totally could have wrote down the info and looked it up when I got home to be sure I got the best deal. I always end up doing things like that. It's aggravating as all hell. I would totally return it and buy the one online too... except that for some reason bridal shops make their return policy as there isn't one... So there's nothing I can do about it. Grumble grumble. Oh well, at least I have a wonderful dress to wear on a wonderful day. And I had a great time with my Maid of Honor in finding it.

Working things out
Alright so we're thinking cutting back on wedding/reception costs and spending a bit more on the honeymoon fun that will probably be a Sandals resort.
Meet in Seaside, have a simple arch maybe with some flowers. Say our vows. Perhaps we'll rent some folding chairs for people to sit in.
Reception I'm thinking hitting up Costco for some burgers and dogs and sides and things. Pick up some plates and silverware, some booze and soda and there you go. Something relaxed. . . think along the lines of our unemployment party. But with music...well more audible music. At least for our first dance and such. Light up a bonfire, roast some S'mores... just have fun.
Get a room for the night and fly out in the morning to paradise.
With this plan we'll really need the support of our friends and family. Manning the grills and such. We're also thinking of asking one of our friends to be the photographer, if anyone has the nice equipment. Then we'll throw some disposables around for people to use and return to us.
If I can get a hold of a reception site on the coast that would work too...then have the 'after party' on the beach. Who knows.
Something simple, something fun.

I'm going wedding dress shopping tomorrow. Eep! I'm more so going to get a feel of what looks good on my frame. I was told by a wise one today that David's Bridal doesn't make the highest quality dresses, and they're hard to alter. So we'll definitely see. If I find 'the' dress, then perhaps a purchase will be made. Seeing has how we have no idea how we're making rent, it'll have to be a credit card purchase...but, yeah....

We wanted to do the wedding in 2010, rather than wait forever because we are excited. Since our guest list is rather small, and the location will most likely be free that leaves us open with availabilities even within the shorter amount of time.
The date will be July 22, 2010. Mid summer, less chance of coldness and/or rain. College friends (aka Brittany and Caity) will be here for the summer.
In addition, I've found a few dresses that I really like.
Now what?
-- Location of ceremony.
-- Check for permits if we end up needing one.
-- Find hotel/ballroom for reception
-- Look at tents/tables info for outside reception if desired
